“Should I document my fitness journey?”
I thought it was unnecessary. I thought it was cliché. Two weeks later, I began posting.
I learned about the Bodybuilding.com 250k challenge in late December 2016 and immediately knew I would participate. Who wouldn’t be interested in the $100k prize? It seemed simple enough: 1) get in shape, 2) GET PAID.
I was quite embarrassed of my physique at the time and did not want to post progress photos to my personal social media accounts. On the other hand, I also knew that to be successful I would need to document my fitness journey. Most importantly, my fitness journey would need to showcase my results without the lack of animal products. So, while sitting in my gym sauna a few short days before the competition began, I decided to create a new Instagram account. I glanced over the username field, what would I name my new hidden account?
Absentmindedly, my fingers began to type. Before I realized what my fingers had done, the account was created. Meatless Fitness.
Very shy at first, most of my posts were of gym equipment, quotes, and food. A few days went by and though my physique had not changed, I was much more confident. As I write this, my training is a mere 4 weeks in but I have few reservations about the fitness photos I post now. Transformation photos, workout videos, commentary on my progress.
I document this journey for myself, and I share it to help others.
